  • Why are you doing this?
To answer this question, we need to discuss the inspiration and reason we decided to start this organization. When we entered High School and started taking many science classes, we realized two fundamental things. The first thing we realized is that Science is one topic, that you cannot assign grade levels to science classes. With a good teacher and a new approach "college and high school science" can be made to be understandable to much younger children. The second thing we realized is that when we started competing in numerous science competitions, such as the olympiads or the Science Olympiad Conventions, or TSA, we both wished that, we had an opportunity to learn a lot of biology or chemistry or any science when we were younger, in middle school as such. We decided to form Sciencetex to give other children the opportunity to learn and expand their knowledge, so they would develop the intellect to learn more complex concepts when they do eventually enter high school and beyond. This class also serves to be a very strong training for the Science Olympiads, and any head-start you can get is beneficial.
  • Why do ScienceTeX Classes Over Dance, Chess, Math, Kumon, Music, Etc?"
While we believe all extracurricular classes are beneficial, the benefits of learning science are direct and evident. Science complements all of these other subjects, but from our own experience, Science is what will help students in the classroom, outside the classroom, and help them earn accolades and awards that can spiral into a career and future. Not everyone can become a grandmaster, not everyone can be a professional dancer, not everyone can be a musician. While all of those are truly valuable talents, Science is for everyone, regardless of one's specific interests. We are pushing students to the next-step, and giving students an oppurtunity never seen before, with data that this works. ScienceTeX is what brings a student the potential to learn about fields that can eventually be a strong career path. A personal anecdote on math, is that while math can be just as useful as science classes, what we have come to learn is that, the classic school curriculum goes for math at a good pace, and eventually the high-shiners in math can get ahead in the normal school syllabi. This does not hold true for science as we feel the school curriculum and school system in the world woefully underestimates the capacities of students to comprehend and understand science. ScienceTeX bridges this gap.
  • Will it disturb my child's study time for school?
Absolutely not. In fact, these classes were designed to supplement what he/she learns at school. Your Child, excelling in our classes, will only make your child more adept and prepared to handle his/her grade level science class with ease. We did not design, or intend for these weekly sessions to contain homework, but we may occasionally recommend after-class activities that we have designed to reinforce and expand the material that they learn, and we expect that many students will eventually develop an interest to read more material and cool discoveries outside of the sessions we host. In addition, many kids go to Piano, Violin, Math, Chess classes outside of school. Like those extracurricular activities, this class will not disturb their participation in regular school.
  • What is different from the school education/syllabus?
Our syallbus is special. Instead of segmenting and attaching grade levels to science, and seperating fields of science, we leverage concepts from many Honors and AP(College-level) classes taught in High School such as AP-Chemistry, AP-Phsyics, AP-Biology, etc. For example, teaching basic chemistry and basic Biology, with many relations to what they already know in their grade levels, enables us to add concepts that are even in the High School classes, and still make it easy to understand.
  • I am a parent of a 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th grader. Why should I enroll my son/daughter in these classes, especially with the material being very high level?"
If your kid was like us, science is something that he/she probably loves. The material will be doable, and sometimes tackling a new challenge or concept, can spark the passion for your kid to learn more and more, and also for him to develop a new perspective of thought. Additionally, constructive discussion with kids and us, that are of higher grade levels, only increases your son's/daughter's exposure, and ability to think. Our classes have been going on for quite a while, and now we have over 111 lessons as of writing this. We have data-driven proof that our class benefits students within our alloted age range, as we had over 27+ elementary and middle school students earn awards in a competition that was meant for 15 year old high schoolers.
  • What will this help my kid in the future?
The benefits of learning science are inumerable, and these classes will greatly help your kid in many science competitions, such as the olympiads, math competitions, TSA, Regeneron, Science Bowl, and Quiz-Bowl. However, the biggest benefit is that these classes will prepare your kid when he/she enters high school, college, and he/she may even learn something about himself that he/she never knew before. We say these benefits with our own proof. We are high schoolers. We wish we had this oppurtunity when we were younger to learn accelerated science. It would have helped us do so much better.
  • This is such a different extra-curricular concept. Why?
There are multiple reasons to why we decided to do this, but another reason is that this fills a void that always has existed but has never been answered. Many kids go to many extracurricular classes, but kids who love science really do not have opportunities as such, and this finally presents an solution to that problem. If your kid was like us, science is something he/she really loves, and this will allow him to pursue that passion with something beneficial. Additionally, by making the grade range 4th to 9th, we think its great, because when kids talk with other kids of different ages, they develop a lot of exposure and a new perspective on learning and the world.
  • Is it Free? Why if so?
Our classes are entirely free of charge, and is open to any 4th to 9th graders. This was designed to be not-for-profit since the inception of the idea, and we are doing this to fill our passion and spread the joy that science brought to us.
  • Where are the classes? What do I need?
We host classes on Zoom, and use a variety of interactive online resources such as Phet Interactive Simulations, and Quizizz in each class, to reinforce and supplement the teaching while promoting constructive discussions on the topic. You do not need anything other than a computer with zoom, the ocassional sheet of paper, and an open mind of curiousity. The classes are around 1 hour long each week, and is a group lesson.

We Look Forward to Seeing Your Kids in Our Classes Soon!
